"Rosie Fund" Success
A Tribute to Community
These are some examples of benefits from The Rosie Fund.
It has:
- Provided textbooks for victims of domestic abuse to
help give women the training they need to better help
themselves.
- Paid for transportation costs to and from the hospital
for victims of
rape or sexual assault.
- Helped pay for
retesting those women whose gynecological exam indicates there
may be a problem but who don't have insurance to pay for a follow-up.
- Paid for a locksmith to change the home locks to protect a women and her children from their abuser.
- Paid the first month rent after a woman and her child were victimized by a landlord.
- Provided medical services for women with no other coverage for blood pregnancy tests, blood thyroid tests, pelvic ultrasounds, antibiotics, and anti-virals.
- Provided gas cards and telephone cards to help women with emergency travel and lodging expenses.
Administered through the Community Foundation of Kankakee
River Valley, the Rosie Fund in 2005 provided grants to three
organizations on a pilot program: Harbor House, KC-CASA, and
Riverside New Life Center. The 2006 grant program will be
announced after discussion and input from members.
